Cristiano Ronaldo has two years left on his current contract with Real Madrid.
The new Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, expects Cristiano Ronaldo to sign a new contract, despite reports linking him with a move away from the club this summer.
The Portuguese has been the subject of speculation about a possible return to his former club Manchester United, and the Paris Saint-Germain president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has publicly stated his interest in the forward. But Ronaldo has two years left on his current deal in the Spanish capital and, during a press conference in Madrid on Saturday, Ancelotti was quick to praise his top scorer.
"Everyone knows that he is a superstar and a great player," Ancelotti said. "The most important thing for the club is that a player of his quality shows the utmost professionalism. That is good, especially for the young players who can see a world-class player working with that attitude. I am not responsible for the renewal of his contract, but it won't be a problem."
Gonzalo Higuaín is another player who has been tipped to head to the Premier League this summer, with Arsenal strongly linked with a move for the striker. And, though the Italian did not go as far as giving Higuaín assurances about his future, he did stress that the Argentinian will have the chance to impress him. "I have spoken to the player but it was a private conversation," Ancelotti said. "He is currently a Real Madrid player and I am happy to have him here."
Real have been busy in the transfer market in recent weeks, with Dani Carvajal, Isco and Asier Illarramendi all arriving to bolster the squad for next season.
Real Madrid also continue to be linked with a move for Tottenham's Gareth Bale, but, when questioned about the Welsh forward, Ancelotti played a typically straight bat. "I am happy with the squad and I don't want to talk about other players out of respect for those who are here," he said.
